I’ve to admit first and foremost that I’m a huge Hujan fan. And there are probably hundreds, maybe thousands more out there who fell in love with them after hearing their demos on Myspace. There’s just something very endearing in the songs’ melodies and in the way their frontman Noh playfully and effortlessly sings his life-affirming lyrics. And so we discovered that their home demos are truly something special. Yet this debut mini album disappoints in that it’s somehow lost that magical, special something we all loved in their demos. That spontaneous joy of their demos is just not there anymore. Yes, the songs are still pure quality, but there’s this feeling of trying too hard to do things ‘properly’. And so what might’ve been a great debut is now merely a very good one. But what a first try!
