Lo-fideo Contender: Khottal

What do you get when you put eight people with diverse personalities and musical influences together in a room to twiddle thumbs? Some experimentally melodic meanderings under the code name Khottal. Apparently eight is not enough for this octet–the group is already expanding with more members. Mixing punk, unpolished pop, indie rock, and jangly and fey melodies, we sat down with the current crew to find out what they've been brewing.

What are you guys up to now?
Currently we're working on our first release with a new local indie label called Freak Music and recruiting another two new band members. Other than that, we just spend our time trying to remember every band member's face and name–it's not an easy job, you know...

How did your singing persona come about?
It is all about being a new person in new surroundings.

How would you describe your sound?
Someone told us that we're like a Slipknot that's into pop songs. Minus the weirdo masks.

What's the story behind your Lo-fideo?
It's not so peaceful, as you can see on the clip. We were trying our best to wake up the neighbourhood, but everyone ended up hiding after we noticed a police patrol light outside the house.

What does the future evidently hold for Khottal if you win?
There will be more confused people calling us a "Lo-fideo band" or that "Khottal is Lo-fideo", as it has already started now.
