When we kicked off our inaugural Junksounds Awards 2008, we certainly couldn’t have anticipated the huge response around the South East Asian region from fans eagerly supporting their favourite music and acts. Particularly those from the Philippines, which swept ten out of the 14 categories!

So now in appreciation of these acts, JUNK has partnered up with Philippines’ eminent label/event organiser Sonic Boom for a very special kind of awards show. This month, JUNK hits Manila to recognise and award some of the Philippines’ finest acts for their contributions to help build a healthy music scene in their respective countries and beyond–and also for just being awesome.

On the bill to receive awards and perform are fiery Cebu City emo rockers Urbandub (Best Group) and Faspitch (Best Live Act), emo/indie rockers Typecast from Santa Rosa City (Best Guitar Band) and cute all-girl punkers Nyctinasty (Best Breakthrough Act). Completing the sonic spectrum are female-fronted trip hop act Drip (Best Electronic/Fusion Act), singer-songwriter Swissy (Best Artist) and rapper extraordinaire D-Coy (Most Promising).

Award winners Rivermaya (For Dreamy Sundays), Taken By Cars (Album Of The Year) and Chicosci (Most Popular) can’t make the show, but we’ve got guest act The Dorques, who have generously agreed to showcase their sound at the event.
