In my opinion, what a load of crap. Come on Dato' Siti woohoo..
In my opinion, Butterfingers should get the nod over Hujan since
1) Butterfingers has redefined their music over the decade from grunge to indie-folk rock; I just couldn't fathom how they manage to seamlessly fuse Malay tradition of syair and keroncong, which many of us seem to forget or deride, into their brand of rock. "Uneducated" musicians they are not.
2) Hujan, when many first heard their music, straight away label "Ni The Strokes versi Malaysia ke? / Julian Casablancas boleh nyanyi dalam BM?" They have since defied their critics but they haven't define their music...yet like Butterfingers have now done. In terms of popularity, Hujan has the pull of the mainstream crowd but I hope that won't be the major deciding factor in choosing the winner.
But yeah, a lot of independent bands charting & nominated for awards. Good thing or bad thing? Hopefully we'll bring 2008 indie boom's momentum into this year!
hujan all the way!!!!!!
And let the flame wars......BEGIN!!!!!!
butters, otai kena step back already. time to pencen. HUJAN! good luck noh. semoga bejaya.
They better reward Butterfingers...long goddamn time coming.
