Malaysia's Pineapple Concerts has been blacklisted by the Malaysian government from bringing foreign artists, while NERD are being sued by Indonesian promoters for their show cancellation.
According to the News Straits Times (thanks to Junk reader Black Pineapple for the link), in a statement released by the Information, Communications, Arts and Culture Ministry, an application has also been made to the Companies Commission of Malaysia to cancel Pineapple's registration and blacklist the names of its directors because it allowed three groups (Korn, NERD and Agrikulture) to perform without a permit.
For NERD, the problems have hardly ended. Channel News Asia reports that Java Festival Production has threatened to sue the hip hop group for the last-minute cancellation of their Jakarta show, which was done because the band feared they would face the same problems that they had with the authorities in Malaysia. The organisers had to reimburse all 3,000 people who had already purchased tickets.
Oh, well. Looks like Sunburst really has made more of an impact than it anticipated...
no matter what they have brought KORN to KL so far-q blacklisters
Updated news, for the final event, sunburst will bring in Slipknot.
what? I was only dreaming? damn.
sunburts no more....sigh*
despite the sort of disorganized sunburst this year, they did make me cry watching Korn and for that I thank them...
Wow..this is a huge news. Tsk tsk.. I am sure that there will be other organisers who will bring int'l acts..
The law is the law. Why permit the artists to come and perform here when they did not have the permit to do so? I applaud Nenas' effort to bring international acts, but it could have been handled in a more professional way.
(1) I dont regard myself as a 'suckburst' haters, but i do feel cheated by the way they handled things this year. sunburst '08 was awesome, and had potential to be great. but maybe the nenas dudes got too greedy too fast? plus, i'm sure these accusation from the law have a basis, and if its true then i'd say let nenas claim responsibility for it. i'd like them to come out with a statement of apology instead of blaming other people for it. (*hint* official statement on the nerd fiasco *hint*) what i don't get is why such the big brouhaha over NERD only?? i only heard about Korn and Agriculture when it came out in NSTP.
(2) But hopefully, all is not dead without nenas around. I, for one, do not want irresponsible organisers making a bad name for Malaysia and making it more difficult to get foreign acts to come here, when other organisers have been successful without twice the fuss.
(3) and i'm still hopefull that we can still have an annual music festival here. MALAYSIA BOLEH!!
(4) > 1000 posts?? haha... xleh jadi la Mat Petani.
gago want to ban good music..ban friggin' AF first!!! im sick of the God forsaken show..
this is all poli-trick bullshit.
hahaha padan muka :)
