American menswear designer John Varvatos has collaborated with SPIN Earth and Island Records for a global online search to find the next rock 'n' roll band out there!
That's right, it's GLOBAL. Which means anyone from anywhere in the world can join, including us folks in Asia. All you have to do is submit a vid of your band performing (male bands that play rock 'n' roll preferred) at the SPIN Earth site accompanied by a bio and photo. You also must not be signed to a music label and must play your own original compositions.
Three talented bands will be flown to New York City for Fashion Week in September to perform live to an audience and a panel of rockstar judges (including Varvatos) at John Varvatos 315 Bowery (the former CBGB). The battle of the bands winner will receive a development deal with Island Records (the record company that brought us Fall Out Boy and Sum41) and be featured in the next John Varvatos Star USA advertising campaign as well as on SPIN Earth.
SPIN Earth is sending out more than 350 correspondents to scout the globe to find fresh, unsigned bands to join this battle. The competition kicked off on 21 April and will be ongoing until 31 July 2009.
For more on the competition, visit www.spinearth.tv/freethenoise. You can also view submissions and vote for your favourite(s)! (Kinda reminds you of Junk's Lo-fideo competition, doesn't it?)
