The Afghan Whigs
Serial hedonists The Afghan Whigs' achievements are many, but perhaps they will best resonate in public consciousness, rightly or wrongly, for their appearance in Ted Demme’s 1996 indie flick Beautiful Girls (which featured a young Natalie Portman back when she could still act).
None of the Whigs are dead or anything; not least Greg Dulli, who is off the heroin and in The Gutter Twins (with Mark Lanegan). But they now have a tribute album dedicated to them called Summer’s Kiss: A Tribute To The Afghan Whigs on which Lanegan, Joseph Arthur, Matthew Ryan, The Gin Riots, Chess Club and others feature.
You can listen to the tracks HERE, with My Jerusalem’s cover of ‘66’ available for free download.
