Midnight Marvel are Shirley (vocals), Evilyn (guitar), Alf (bass) and Lennat (drums). Calling their music a mix of rock and ghetto tech, the band usually injects elements of fun and drama to give their performances a bang.
How did you guys get your band name?
Eve: Well it was either this or Sh*t Said Shirley (SSS for short), which was a lot harder to say, plus some of our friends thought we were ripping off Right Said Fred. This whole band name thing, it's a lot like naming a kid - you just gotta let someone decide on a name and let the kid's personality take over.
What would you be doing if you weren’t in a band?
Alf: I'd probably hang out at a lot of concerts, living the life of a rock musician vicariously.
Shirley: I’d still be doing designs for my day job, but I might consider being a tattoo artist by night.
If you had a chance to name a music festival, what would it be called?
Alf: “Crockery” ... a comedy rock festival.
Lennat: I love the sound of Summersonic so I shall cop that and call mine "Sonic Thump", with a reference to my favourite band The White Stripes. Would Junk cover my festival? I promise a good time for all. Just don't give the review a headline like "Sonic Dump"!
Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but not to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?
Lennat: Good question! Here's another: where do you point to if you want to ask "Where's the party?"
What will you be up to at Baybeats 2008?
Shirley: I’ll be up onstage and rocking your socks off!
