We were antsy all week just waiting to catch Simian Mobile Disco spin at Zouk last Saturday. After leaving Recharge Revelation, last year's outdoor music festival in Melaka, unsatisfied by SMD's one-man set, we thought we'd be redeemed this time.
With an opening set by LapSap, SMD came on at 1am. But only one James came. The same James that came last year too–James Anthony Shaw. But still, it was banging from start to finish and Shaw did manage to satisfy fans with SMD hits 'Hustler', 'It's The Beat' and 'Sleep Deprivation' from album Attack Decay Sustain Release. Then it went quite mad towards the end of the night with some Klaxons thrown in, and later in to maximum overdrive with lots of pounding bass, synths and mind-boggling effects. So much so that stones from the ceiling fell on our heads!

It became super hot inside Zouk, what with barely any air-conditioning in the still-unfinished space. The white strobe light aimed at the dance floor that was blinking every other minute didn't help our headaches. At the end of the night, we walked out half deaf, half numb, half buzzing. But all good.
