On a rather damp Saturday afternoon on 15 November, the U.O.X. Play “Block Party” saw CapSquare’s outdoor space in the heart of KL turned into a massive arena of creativity. The buzz behind the event was already doing its rounds on Facebook, and partner sites and blogs weeks before it debuted to the Malaysian masses. (People were even adding U.O.X. Play as a friend!)

Starting at 2pm, the all-day free event had live music acts, MCs and DJs setting the mood with their stage presence while b-boys worked the mat on a separate stage against a backdrop of graffiti art and design installations from Joe Tribe, They Art Studio, Bibichun, Donald Yak, Mistawhy, Jeng, BLAM and Pipit. The eye candy continued with spontaneous fashion shows parading clothes and wares from the Threadszoo marketplace, which had rows of vendors including Flowerdrum, Osixnine and Tongue in Chic’s Chic Charity in aid of the Women’s Aid Organisation (which collected over RM1000 at the end of the night).

There was plenty to do besides watching performances and shopping for vintage threads. While stage time was left to the pros, amateur talents had a go at singing and playing their instruments at the special U.O.X. Audition Booth–those who dared to venture in had their live performances recorded, with videos being uploaded to the U.O.X. official website for a shot at winning some real stage time at a future U.O.X. On the flipside, avid ballers shot hoops in the basketball cage while rock music enthusiasts Rock Band-ed their way on the Xbox 360 to win an iPod.

Even with all that buzz in activity, no one was left hungry or thirsty, with plenty of F&B to go around including some good eats from Jarrod & Rawlins. Acoustic wonders Yuna, Zee Avi, Isaac Entry, Bo, Paolo Delfino, Rashdan Harith and Reza Salleh provided the calm before the storm in the early hours while Joe Flizzow (with DJ Iman), The Rebel Scum, Stylustiks and DJ Goldfish x Arabyrd dropped some sick grooves later in the night. And the fun went on way after midnight, with the U.O.X. After-party at Red Square serving up a free flow for all U.O.X. members and smashing choons from RaySoo ‘til late.
