This April we look through the lens, and conjoin music and design through the beauty of photographs in our Behind The Lens issue.
Features
We've changed it up this month and ditched the wordy features to make way for our Behind The Lens photo-based feature as we gather eight luminaries in music and design/photography from across the South East Asian region, and let them take turns snapping pictures of each other. We hope you like the results. Junk also clues you in on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Festival as he returns to Singapore in May. We've also got cool interviews with VHS or Beta, Rise Against, DragonForce and Hey Monday.
Open Mic
We talk to electronica musician Silent Keat, who's turned out to be not so silent after all. Get to know Junk's Lo-fideo champs Sorry and Malaysian DJ collective Mixing In Action talk about the party scene in KL. Singapore indie pop band Postbox grabs our attention as this month's Buzzed artists.
Reviews
We drop in on Singapore's Double Debut Weekender at Zouk where Deadmau5, Shinichi Osawa and Masatoshi Uemura send clubgoers into a frenzy while Parkway Drive braves through a searing set in Kuala Lumpur and "Geek In The Pink" Jason Mraz gets 9,000 KL fans flushed. We also review albums by Indonesia's Efek Rumah Kaca, The Prodigy, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Masia One and plenty more.
Junk Music Compilation
April is a special month as we sit back and max chillax with our chosen curator Wei, label owner of Kuala Lumpur’s very own indie electro acoustic label mü-nest. Sweet, Zen sounds are mü-nest’s forte (as you will hear when you preview the hushed tracks featured on our online player this month).
Freebies
Aside from kick ass articles, Junk loves to shower its readers with loads of free stuff. We're giving away 10 pairs of Reebok Freestyle Rainbow Sneakers worth RM249 each, Fast & Furious 4 movie tickets and merch, and a pair of tickets to Gilles Petersons' Worldwide Festival in Singapore. We've also got 5 CD albums each of U2's No Line On The Horizon, Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted and Abuse The Youth from Thailand's Under Skin up for grabs–thanks to Sony Music, Universal Music and Mind The Gap in Bangkok.
p/s Happy April Fool’s! Just like a pet chimpanzee, we like to have our amusing moments. If you can spot our April Fool’s prank somewhere in our pages, you might win a mystery prize from us! Send your guesses to editor@junkonline.net before the month is over.
