The more eagle-eyed among you will notice that some things look different this month. We've tricked out some parts of the mag stylistically (beginning from the awesome cover), so it's only fitting that we lumped the natural bedmates music and fashion together!
They're like nose and booger–you need to dig deep to find an extremely rare gem. Seriously though, some people just have a knack for chancing upon the most excellent finds (we mean in fashion, not in booger). They're walking style pros that keep the rest of us in check–or just plain envious. More often than not, music plays a huge part in the style decisions of many a trendspotter and trend leader. So when we're digging The Horrors, we're wearing Cheap Mondays. When we're dancing to MGMT, we're sporting Dim Mak. When we're bumpin' to Kanye, we're doing it with our Nike Air Force Ones.
This September, it's all about the style: we collaborate with sister fashion website Tongue in Chic to spotlight some of the trends bursting out of four Asian cities where music and fashion are very much alive and well. If you're stylistically challenged, we tell you what to wear and how to wear it. And to complete the look, we hit the dirt (literally) to put some of this season's coolest kicks to the test. These supreme soles will leave you frothing at the mouth. We also have some super duper interviews with Jet, Little Boots, Concave Scream, Faspitch and Birmingham's own graffiti guru Mohammed Ali.
Reviews
This month's albums reviewed include a lead review on The SIGIT's loud and aptly-titled Hertz Dyslexia, plus the latest from The Fiery Furnaces, The Dead Weather, Calvin Harris and Arctic Monkeys. And the two size XL shows that went down recently get a mention as well: Carpathian and Envy rocked out not just hard, but hardest, at their Asian excursions.
Junk Music Compilation
We got Rudi from Singapore's A Vacant Affair to give us some of his top picks from his countrymen, and it includes the likes of Sherene's Closet, The Stoned Revivals, Concave Scream, VX and, of course, A Vacant Affair.
Freebies
This month we're giving away some exclusive tics and merch from the Disney-animated guinea pig romp G-Force. In which they save the world! And you can also win tickets to watch master hitmaker Akon bleat out trilled woot after trilled woot at Sunway Lagoon in October. And there's quite a good selection of CDs to be won as well, with Florence and The Machine's Lungs, The Mars Volta's Octahedron, Lenka's self-titled debut and Ultimate R&B: The Love Collection, courtesy of Sony Music and Universal Music!
